The Feeling
The lakes offer contrast.
carrying the calls of birds across a softer, mirrored light. These shores act as a
sanctuary, offering a rare point of stillness for the surrounding wildlife.
It is a place of perfect equilibrium where time seems to expand.
EXPERIENCES AT THE LAKES
Flamingos, rhinos, and a contained ecosystem
Lake Nakuru National Park surrounds a shallow alkaline lake whose chemistry shapes everything that lives around it. The park’s compact size creates a high concentration of wildlife and birdlife within a clearly defined landscape.
Game drives reveal:
- Black and white rhinos grazing in open plains
- Rothschild giraffes moving through acacia woodland
- Buffalo, zebra, and antelope along grassland edges
- Flamingos and pelicans gathering along the lake shore when conditions allow
Elevated viewpoints such as Baboon Cliff offer wide views over the lake, helping you read animal movement and bird patterns across the park.

Extraordinary diversity across two lakes
Birdlife connects Nakuru and Naivasha. Together, the lakes support hundreds of species across alkaline shores, freshwater wetlands, river deltas, and forest edges.
At Lake Nakuru, birding centers on flamingos, pelicans, storks, and raptors soaring above the escarpment. At Lake Naivasha, freshwater attracts fish eagles, kingfishers, cormorants, herons, and jacanas walking across floating vegetation.
Birdwatching here is constant rather than occasional. Movement, sound, and interaction fill the air throughout the day.

Water-level encounters with wildlife
Boat safaris on Lake Naivasha shift the experience from land to water. Moving slowly along the shoreline and through papyrus stands, you encounter wildlife from a completely different perspective.
You glide past:
- Hippos surfacing rhythmically
- Fish eagles scanning and diving
- Giraffes and antelope grazing at the water’s edge
- Waterbirds nesting and feeding at close range
The pace is calm and immersive. The lake feels alive beneath you.

WHY THE LAKES WITH KAMAWE
We use the lakes as a transition between safari regions or as gentle entry points into nature.
